Norwegian Cruise Lines reported that Captain Kenneth Harstrom responded to a call from the U.S. Coast Guard at 8am, requesting the Norwegian Star's assistance. The disabled yacht, Avenir, was located 54 nautical miles from the cruise ship headed for Bristol, Rhode Island, when the vessel lost its rudder and could not be steered. The cruise ship reached Avenir at noon and by 1pm the Norwegian Star's crew had all 6 passengers -- three men and three women -- safely on board.
