Oops. It happened on March 10. I was on board the Star Princess myself. I did not hear anything abou

Princess Cruises deeply regrets that two Panamanian men perished at sea after their boat became disabled vacation rentals caribbean in early March. Since we became aware of this incident, we have been investigating circumstances vacation rentals caribbean surrounding the claim that Star Princess failed to come to the aid of the disabled boat, after a crew member was alerted by passengers.
The preliminary results of our investigation have shown that there appeared to be a breakdown in communication in relaying the passenger s concern. Neither Captain Edward Perrin nor the officer of the watch were notified. Understandably, Captain Perrin is devastated that he is being accused of knowingly turning his back on people in distress. Had the Captain received this information, he would have had the opportunity to respond.
We all understand that it is our responsibility and also the law of the sea to provide assistance to any vessel in distress, and it is not an uncommon occurrence for our ships to be involved in a rescue at sea. In fact, we have done so more than 30 times in the last ten years.
We're aware of the allegations that Star Princess supposedly passed by a boat in distress that was carrying three Panamanian fishermen vacation rentals caribbean on March 10, 2012. At this time we cannot verify the facts as reported, and we are currently conducting an internal investigation on the matter.
Princess Cruises is dedicated to the highest standards of seamanship wherever our ships sail, and it is our duty to assist vacation rentals caribbean any vessel in distress. We have come to the aid of many people at sea, and we will continue to do so.
I learned today through Cruise Law News  that Carnival Corporation has launched an internal investigation into reports from passengers that Princess Cruise s, Star Princess ignored pleas for rescue from a stranded boat at sea.
3 passengers, who were also bird watchers with binoculars, apparently spotted a small fishing vessel, Fifty Cents , stranded in the Pacific Ocean. The passengers claim that they saw 3 men on board the boat waving both a red shirt and an orange life jacket to try to attract the attention of the cruise ship. The 3 passengers immediately alerted a nearby crew member of the situation, but the ship kept sailing. Now, at this point we don t know which crew members actually knew about this situation, or why the ship kept sailing.
vacation rentals caribbean Anyway, the end result? Oropeces Betancourt (24) died of dehydration. The youngest fisherman, Fernando Osorio (16) died five days later due to dehydration, sunburn and heat stroke.  It was another 9 days before Adrian Vasquez (18) was finally saved near the Galapagos Islands.
If the captain of the Star Princess, Captain Perrin, knew or saw the stranded boat, he should have immediately taken his ship to the aid of the stranded boat. Even the International Convention for the Safety of Life At Sea (SOLAS) states
The master of a ship at sea which is in a position to be able to provide assistance on receiving a signal from any source that persons are in distress at sea, is bound to proceed with all speed to their assistance
This is the first time I have ever heard of a cruise ship not coming to the rescue of another boat in distress. Most of these situations usually turn out much better. I can t imagine why the crew of the Star Princes would ignore vacation rentals caribbean another boat in distress, but as of right now, it sure seems like they did.
At this point, we don t have a lot of concrete facts, or any official statements from either Princess Cruises or Carnival Corporation. We will have to wait and see what develops over the next few days. This is obviously vacation rentals caribbean a very sad story and I encourage vacation rentals caribbean you to pray for all those who have been affected by this very sad story.

I have plans to do much larger things in the cruise industry and I can't wait till I have the chance to show you what I can do on a larger scale.
Oops. It happened on March 10. I was on board the Star Princess myself. I did not hear anything about this incidence on board the ship. That means this incidence was not elevated high enough to be considered urgent. I did not even hear anything vacation rentals caribbean from the dining room waiters or the buffet waiters or fellow passengers. How many people saw that fishing boat anyway? There were lots of people on the ship and why the 3 bird watchers not tell other peoples too if they believed that to be a distressed fishing boat requiring help, they should do whatever they can to get the attention of the captain. May be they did not want to alarm other passengers? This is life and death. I don't mind to be alarmed. I think people nowadays are too apathetic and indifference. vacation rentals caribbean Nonetheless, if I knew about the incidence, I certainly would not stop at anything until I saw the captain myself and asked for his explanation of why no rescue operation. The captain was a very nice guy and I do not believe that he will not rescue the fishermen.
Whichever crew member was notified by the passengers was responsible for getting the message to the captain. If he didnt bother , he should be charged and pay a severe penalty. If he couldnt, then the captain should be charged , as this is improper operation of a seagoing vessel.
I am confused as the recent statement says the bridge was not notified but yet a spokesperson provided a story that the captain s log said the fishing boat was waving thanks for having avoided their fishing lines. Something is not adding up.
