Brett Jackson, the Cubs top prospect, is struggling.  Jackson got off to a solid start but his average has dipped to .233 in 33 games.  Making contact remains Jackson s biggest obstacle to a big league promotion.  The center fielder has struck out 45 times in 129 at bats for Iowa.  With Campana playing well for the Cubbies it is unlikely that Jackson will be recalled any time soon.
Baseball America named shortstop Junior Lake the Cubs 8th best prospect prior to the season.  He missed the first month of the season due to injury but is now a member of the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League.  Lake has only appeared in six games but the early results are promising.  He is hitting just .238 but has already walked 5 times in 21 at bats.  Last season lake drew just 13 walks in 242 at bats for Tennessee.  He finished the 2011 season with a .300 OBP.
Matt Szczur was Chicago s fifth round selection in the 2010 amateur draft.  The 22 year old outfielder, and highly regarded prospect, is off to a solid start for Daytona.  In 33 games Szczur is hitting .250 with 16 stolen airline tickets orbitz search preferred airport bases.  Despite the relatively low batting average Szczur currently has a solid .353 OBP due to drawing 17 walks in 132 at bats.  Szczur has also scored 32 runs on the season.
Austin Reed, a 20 year old relief pitcher, is performing well in a new role for Peoria.  Reed has pitched exclusively out of the bullpen for the Chiefs after starting 13 games in 2011 for the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League.  Reed struggled as a starter going just 2-7 with a 6.08 ERA.  Reed allowed 82 hits and walked 25 in 63.2 innings.
