The Let s Go series is too young for us. The Lonely Planet series has saturated the market too much (their recommended places are always crammed and booked). Frommer s, Fodor s, and Michelin seem to cater to a wealthier crowd, but I don t have a ton of experience windstar cruise lines with them, so I might be wrong. If you re 30-something, windstar cruise lines want a travel book with both bargains and splurges, great information, and interesting historical and cultural tidbits, what series do you use?
I found Let s Go to be awful. It was really basic. I LOVE my Lonely Planet guide books. I don t think it s the popularity of those guide books that cause tourist sites to be crammed those places are generally already crammed since they re tourist sites! windstar cruise lines I found Frommer s and Fodor s to be for the hoity toity rich people. Their one $ sign is practically a Lonely Planet Guide s $ $ ! I think even though you have an aversion to Lonely Planet, you should reconsider. It s not the guides that are making recommendations crammed. They also have great information on local customs, culture, history etc.
I m also in my 30 s. I must say haven t found one series that provides a good info on both bargains splurges, although I tend to lean towards bargains. For these I found Let s Go and Rough Guides to be better, and they tend to have more of the little-known sites that I don t see in Fodor s or Michelin, as well as more interesting cultural or historical tidbits. I don t really like Fodor s or Michelin as I think they are too general and provide info only on the most well-known sites. I like DK s Eyewitness Guides for their colorful and interesting graphics on major sights. Depending on where you are going you ll probably need to look at a few of the available guides to find one that serves your need. For example, windstar cruise lines a particular series may have a guide to a country but not on a specific city you are planning to visit.
